this months copy of japanese publication, popeye, is pages and pages of lowdown on what to do in new york. im really curious to read more because there are SO many nooks and crannies in that wonderful city, that every time i go, my trip is completely different. after im done with this mountain of work, i hope to put together a little guide of my favorite things in the city. heres a band i discovered last time i was there: newyorklovediary (뉴욕러브다이어리). check out my favorite song by them HERE.

if boys look like this in spring/summer 2013 then i’m already counting down the days. actually, i have a lot of important deadlines coming up so these two dimensional boys are as good as it gets for me at the moment. general idea is based in new york, but i later realized its a korean brand. i guess i’m still on that wave length then. the camo, the earthy tones with suttle pops of neon and the nonchalant ‘i woke up and threw this on but damn, i look good’ vibe is what im feeling at the moment. i hope i can achieve that last bit.

so thoroughly impressed with this 17 year old out of brooklyn. joey bada$$ leaves a lasting impression because i feel like what he does comes so naturally to him. i’m not one of those crazies going around saying ‘hip hop is dead’, but i do like how he breathes some fresh air back into an old school sound. plus, his verses are just too sharp; definitely mature beyond his years. to listen and for free download click here.

pulled my usual houdini, and escaped to new york for the weekend. there was so much i wanted to do (and so much i was dying to blog about), but i ended up doing none of those things ha. oh well, there’s always next time. i did manage to grab quite a few yummy bites with my pal ernest, who always knows every yummy restaurant (in both ny, and montreal). a standout would have to be kin shop for a really quaint atmosphere and delicious thai food. sunday morning, we had yummy dim sum, which came out to a mere 27$ for a 4 person feast?! i also indulged and saw jay park + dumbfounded in concert. just melissa, myself and 1 million fainting, smelly, crying american teens.

i’ve been reorganizing the blog as of late, sorting through old posts and tags. i haven’t gotten my new camera charger in the mail yet, but i do have a secret stock of street style pictures i keep for hard times like these! speaking of hard times, this is the weekend thomas and i became friends in new york. we were stuck in a hurricane together, and as much as we wanted to kill each other, we still managed to bond over pizza pockets and ratatouille (the movie).

sometimes i think for too long, i blink twice, and then the person is gone! if i see you once and don’t get your photo, it’s a missed opportunity. if i see you twice, then i just have to ask. wondering how one should go about wearing white pants? simple ..or at least this man makes it look so.

what i love most about new york is the density of quaint shops and cute cafes you can stumble upon. after poking around opening ceremony, i came across dunderon. the shop is of swedish origin, which typically means effortless cool and quality. i’ll admit i mostly hugged it out with jackson, the really adorable shop pup, but that didn’t stop me from noticing the endless amount of really good bags. for clothes and online shopping: dunderdon.

25 Howard Street, New York, NY 100013

avocado, lemon juice, olive oil, chiliflakes on seven grain toast and hibiscus iced tea.

smoked trout salad, black lentils, walnuts, arugula, dried cranberries, avocado, goat cheese, cherry tomatoes, shallots and vinaigrette.

couscous with red peppers, raisins, toasted pinenuts, hummus, eggplant and merguez.

although there was quite the wait for a table, my tastebuds were pleased after the delicious food at cafe gitane. the food is quite easy to make, so ill probably have a go at these at home (especially the avocado toast). the french/moroccan combo is nice and light for the summer. the outdoor seating was my favourite bit, as the seats face outwards just like any authentic french cafe. this facilitates my lurking of the well dressed passer byers.

242 Mott St., New York, NY 10012

meet the latest and greatest addition to the cute-objects-i-like-to-keep-on-my-desk club. this little guy is from the happy labbit series (as opposed to the not so happy smorkin’ labbits). mine came with a cigar, tongue, moustache and glasses, and bubblegum. purchased at kid robot in miami.

battles is a good way to kick off the summer. so upbeat you want to hop out of bed and eat chocolate a sundae for breakfast. this song and video are off their forthcoming album, gloss drop, which comes out on the 7th of june. im noticing a pattern, that everytime summer rolls around and im on a music hunt, new yorkers are always reliable. battles’ mathrock take on tropical sounds comes through most in wall street (mp3). whilst sundome (mp3) has a relaxing echo of island music.
