a month ago it popped into my head to organize an event for movember (a month wear men raise awareness, and money, for prostate cancer, by growing their moustaches). all of my constant phone calls and emails and worries actualized into a really successful event this past saturday! i was so happy and so lucky for everything to just fall into place the way it did. i found 16 local artists to create moustache themed artwork for the evening, accompanied by music from djs: kekus and ledisko as well as very talented bands montoire and golden isles. nick even made some moustache pins and moustache skewers (sprayed with some marc jacobs, in case you were wondering why they smelled so nice) for the photobooth corner we set up. ill post what i came up with, for this event called “dapper dan”, in a minute. there was some frustrating things happening with the venue owner, but despite those money issues and the expenses- 400$ was raised for prostate cancer!

so, i cleaned my room. i just got my shelves and magnet board put up, but its still not done. in fact, i dont think a bedroom should ever be “done”. this might explain why ive changed bedrooms 3 times in the past 5 months. i need to find the perfect plushie for my bed (xmas hint, hint). i also need to go back to that smelly st michel flea market. so much cool stuff, but last time i went my sister was going to pass out from the no air flow and creepiness of people selling things that people probably died loving. im taking my time with adding things to my room, and picking things really carefully. even if its the tiniest magnet im buying. this weekend i bought the moustached raccoon by chloe wise. most of you probably think its creepy that everything in my room is this white. sometimes i cant tell if im walking into the afterlife or my bedroom..

quite the pleasure, ryan cantwell shared with me his photography. the young australian takes photos which are very endearing. they give off a sense of familiarity, like an almost forgotten memory or a deja vu. the way a child would remember details of their surroundings to find their way home is the same eye that cantwell has for his photos. some film, some digital, the colors stay soft and dream-like.

i pulled an all nighter last night trying to finish a term paper, ironically on sikhism. anyways, no sleep calls for zombie chic. a bun for practicality, an urban turban for fun and some comfort wear, which explains the vans.

i like this video. for one, everything they are saying is so right! couldnt have even began to say it better myself when describing shiny shoes, and the perfect classic white shirt. another reason why this video is great, is their northern accents of course; comforting in a way. these two dapper men not only know how to dress, but also how to make great music. under the name HURTS, they play synthpop with a cloud of doomsday looming over.

one of my besties you see most on my blog! nick impresses me all the time. here he found this massive trench at a thrift shop, cut it up and added some plaid a la junya watanabe. flipping fantastic is what it is. check out the process on his blog, the elixe.

i received my impossible project polaroid film pack in the mail the other day and was super excited! first of all, really sleek packaging. the cost wasnt bad at all either! i especially got a great deal using a promo code. i remember i tried to purchase some film a while back but the shipping was ridiculous. now all of that has calmed down and this film ended up costing me 13$ shipping+tax included. holla! plus after you load each film pack, the paper that comes out always has some original text on it, a nice touch.

people collect to satisfy their curiosity, to find a sense of completion, to understand their own personal aesthetic. i never really thought about things i collect until now; they just somehow came to be. since i have so many hamsas (a lot more than depicted in the picture) i tend to wear them as jewelry or as pins. people usually ask me what the hell it is im wearing. like the other day in the metro.. an old man was blatantly staring at me, really he just wanted to know more about my necklace, so we spoke and as i left the metro he said “goodbye evil eye”. in case you didnt know, hamsas are said to protect you from evil eye.

out of character for me, but for the past few months, ive been relying on 4 music videos to keep me alive (this ^, golden isles, destinys child and france gall). this dreamy synth pop is so addictive, like no other. im obsessed with german too, so that only helps the matter. MIT’s myspace here- one you start, you wont stop. i really hope their stuff gets on itunes soon. they came out with their LP entitled ‘coda’, and i have a feeling they’ll be doing massive festivals in no time. i dont mind paying for music whatsoever- i just dont want to pay for 30 euro shipping. hey, christmas?
