warped tour to me means spending the day with my fourteen year old self hence reminding my now older self how much i still love this music! you wont be finding the same raw fun at other summer festivals. i primarily wanted to catch nevershoutnever and bring me the horizon (who actually did the first ever interview on goldzmine)!

i was very impressed with ENTER SHIKARI’s set as their energy was absolutely bonkers. they all looked like little crabs shuffling from side to side meanwhile jumping up and down, catapulting themselves on/off things like kangaroos. their sound was just so interesting, and since these boys are from the uk- they properly gave us the lowdown on how to mix in hardcore with dubstep, like in zzzonked at 1:45. if you took out the music at 1:08 and just listened to the cockney rambles, it reminds me of the streets, remember them? also throwing out dubstep into their metal set was bring me the horizon. a-m-a-z-i-n-g.

reliving the early high school memories, steph, nick, joanna, annie and i sang along to perky “brat pack” with the rocket summer and those catchy chorus’ with all american rejects. heres a photo by steph of tyson looking so good, wearing topman! taylor momsen from gossip girl was also playing with her band! she looked super cute in lace dress and long blonde extensions.

there was a really good amount of impressive merch tents. i spent my money at the jac vanek tent! and they also gave me a free bracelet for being so good looking (not- but jac and i had a real good chat and they were nice!). they even had that popular two finger “cross” ring. i had so much trouble choosing between t’s, they were all to my taste. i ended up with the WANT tank and the carpe diem bracelet. that day lacerda also gave me a free copy of their cd- EPIC POP (and a ton of other lucky stuff happened) but thanks guys!

a good surprise was piano playing, music master MIKE POSNER who is a great example of how warped tour has evolved into being an opportunity for those outside of the punk scene, to a showcase for all talent. he totally reminded me of a male ROBYN in the sense that his tunes consisted of addictive pop but i also find he has the same tone of voice as old justin timberlake. did i just make it sound repulsive? well, just trust me its really not. i was singing along and i hadnt even listened to his stuff at all before. ocassionally there were spurts of electro blasts, like in the infectious “cooler than me” which i heard on the radio the next day, bizzaro! but i do feel like he has enough catchiness to blow up. friends and i theorized that he must not have many friends on warped tour ahah but he was by far the best way to end my day. smooooooth. you can download both his albums FOR FREE on his MYSPACE!

unexpected bits of my day were fishing with revered payton ahaha! and i have a terrible fear of fish, always have, and i promised to stroke one if he caught one. watch the video- i did it! so strange. also before WE THE KINGS went on stage, i got to do their little pre-performance ritual with them; which meant shoving your hand in the middle of a huddle and chanting some crazy talk. got to watch them sing from side stage but then that got annoying so i went back to perching on the edge of the crowd. any other debaucheries were basically me giggling and talking to band boys all day. oh and hey! more streetstyles!

SEE YOU NEXT YEAR !!!

here begins my warped tour 2010 coverage! and yes, i included some street style. i think im the first person to most successfully (and not mockingly) capture the GOOD style of the hardcore kids of warped tour. is this possible? to redeem myself for mostly posting menswear lately, here are two complete babes whos boots were made for moshing (or standing back and watching others do so).

would you expect a die antwoord concert to be anything less than blow your brains insanity? the crowd went absolutely nuts for ninja and yolandi vi$$er. non stop stage diving, booty shaking, head banging madness along with some terrible attempts at singing along.

Die Antwoord – Beat Boy (The Bobby6Killers & Guerilla Speakerz Remix) (MP3)

to sum it all up, i rate this show fourty five pelvic thrusts out of ten. and realistically ninja was going 45 pelvic thrusts per second up and down the stage of le national.even though some accuse this south african act of being “fake” as ninja has always had a different alias going for him (sacha baron cohen style) but anyone to witness die antwoord’s magic knows you just cant fake this ‘next level shit’.

i found it particularly amusing when yolandi demanded the lights be dimmed, then she began singing $copie (“i got what you want boy, i got what you want, but you never gonna get it, so you might as well forget it”) as vaginas and boobs were projected in massive on the whole stage. ridiculous!

the zef side tshirts were for sale but i didnt manage to get one. my gurls made their own however (below) paired with girly gold eyebrows. one big thanks to parham for bringing me to this sold out by a million show. and another big thanks to the depanneur right across the venue for providing me with a lot of fuzzy peaches. later on, over some smoked meat poutine friends and i debated over how old yolandi and ninja are. we tried googling, theres nothing but estimates. how old do you think they are? 24? 54?

Die Antwoord-Zef Side (SITB remix Teen Symmetry edit) (MP3)

im sorry if the majority of my street style posts have been menswear. i hope you havent noticed too too much! i guess im just a huge fan of guys who can dress well and im always trying to keep this blog 50/50 for the ladies and the gents. but how good are these dudes/duds?!

with the start of the good weather and report cards came my paypal account and the beginning of my online shopping craze. those random items you can find on the internet are equivalent to those super cool gems you can only find in an obscure marketplace in nowhere, lithuania. im talking the kind of clothes and accessories i cant come across at the mall.

recently ive been hitting pure gold (ew ~goldzmine~ aha) and i found SHOP W.A.S. (with asian stereotypes). im not entirely sure what the title has to do with things, but thats the last of my concerns. this online store has got it good. the few random things i was thinking about purchasing, i found all on this website.

doing new goth oh so well, you can find your crosses/ satans crosses or saint peters crosses everywhere on the jewelry. i started to name my favorite items, but then i realized i was naming them all. the fox tails are super cute as well as the long dangle earrings (wear just one) and you cant go wrong with slipping on one of those tshirts as you run out the door.

what i find to be really impressive is that unless otherwise stated, the items are all handmade! coming soon is the UN-FAI†HFUL COLLECTION with which we can expect: more printed tees, totes, two finger rings, dyed rabbit foot necklaces, gold dagger earrings, inverted cross necklaces and a hell of a lot of cool stuff. im going to buy a thing or two right now!

VISIT SHOP WITH ASIAN STEREOTYPES

at place vendome during paris fashion week after telling my friends it was okay for them to leave on scooter from rynshu, and i would be fine taking the metro alone. even though i do have the hang of the metro- for anyone who has stayed/lives in paris knows its really not the easiest thing to do. i got lost for a year and a half in an attempt to get there as quickly as possible- and i have zero sense of time and direction which did not help; so i missed 2 shows.

by the time i arrived, all i got to see were the really good looking man models leave which is always fun eye candy, and then was having a chat with owen buenaventura, pol valls (who i actually know from montreal) and anya (a fellow canadian!). scott schuman of the sartorialist came over to take a photo and it was really both fun and interesting to see him in action.

nowhere is there as much love than in the love thy brother and saintwoods crew. cant wait for them to all to come back from their corners of the globe and start partying again! pumping out this hard signature ep with CHULAIN and remixes by my right hand mang, kid aloha, and the killabits. this is pretty damn sure to keep the rave kids smiles on and this is a good representation of just how heavy canada can go! if you want the song in a multi-canadian-bros-love-mix you can catch it in the YOUNG CANADA mixtape also by LOVE THY BROTHER at t:11:05, download it here!

DOWNLOAD HERE: LOVE THY BROTHER – CHULAIN

“For our second release of the summer we’ve ditched the tropical disco sound of Italy and Miami in favour of the grinding basslines of 21st century france and the high pitched wonky leads of Dutch house. If our last release, Feel this Cat, was made with beaches and sun in mind Chulain is unabashedly made for the big scary rave…. This ones for the BROSS.  Backed up on the release is a crushing Dub step remix by Toronto Heavy hitters Killabits that adds a face melting portion of distorted in your face bass.  Hawaii’s Kid Aloha adds his tropical flare to the track drawing from his Reggae and Hip-Hop roots to turn this into a more upbeat party track.”

everyone, meet andrew chipman or internet alias pull teeth. this boy is totally on top of his clothing game, and proves you dont need to be living in a fashion capital to be a city slicker. lil chip is from winnipeg; i used to live in winnipeg (and i too did grocery shopping at that safeway below)! anyhow i thought i would pick his brain a little seeing as i kind of think he is a big deal, and im hoping to shed light on my fellow blogmates so y’all can open your eyeballs and see whats been hiding in the world wide web.

why blog?
I started my blog as a silly little time passer (seriously, check my archives). I’d love to say I started a blog with a specific purpose but it was really just in good fun. I think that adds to my style of blogging. I try not to take things too seriously. Everything on my blog has changed and grown organically. I never had a specific vision in mind which I think helped me in the long run. I’ve met some really amazing people and formed some incredible relationships through it. Also, I just love the damn internet.

blogs you think are off everyones radar but you think should gain more attention? do you think some bloggers are overrated?

Underrated blogs… Kylie of Nice and Shiny is the most creative friend I’ve met through blogging. She deserves the world of success. There haven’t been many new blogs on my radar lately, I haven’t been keeping up with my lurking unfortunately. Point some in my direction, please!

As for overrated blogs, there are definitely some blogs that I don’t think deserve the success or recognition they receive. But, I try to keep a positive attitude about all blogs. Although I may not agree with their outlook or style, it’s always a good thing when people from the blogger world are doing well for themselves. I feel that the more success and attention blogs get, more opportunities are created for the entire blogging community.

definitely share the same point of view on that one. so where do you dream that blogging will take you?
Right now I don’t have any specific goals or aspirations for my blog. Any blogger would be lying if they said they wouldn’t like to be recognized on a larger scale for doing what they love. I’m optimistic about my future but don’t have any expectations.

do you think blogging will ever die?
Eventually, probably. Not anytime soon, though.

whats the fashion scene like in winnipeg?

People underestimate the power of a smaller city. I love Winnipeg because there are so many creative people who are willing to collaborate and inspire one another. We also have an abundance of good shopping so people work a lot harder here to find cool things. Scouring the dirtiest and most obscure thrift stores for those perfect pieces has almost become a sport here. Plus there is a surprising amount of shockingly good look people here. That doesn’t hurt.

do you find it hard to be a blogger from winnipeg, rather than living in a big city or does it help you focus?
I think living in Winnipeg really helps me focus on being creative. As I mentioned earlier we don’t really have big chain retailers here (H&M, Zara, Forever 21) so I figure that helps fuel my DIY fire. I truly love Winnipeg and the people it’s filled with.
