one of the most interesting ways ive ever seen a lookbook presented. not to mention, when its paired with such a gorgeous place that looks/feels/tastes like heaven, you cant expect anything less. to keep it short and sweet, i love this video so much!
lucky me, emily from WANT agency gave me a look-see of nudie’s current collections. first she showed me the lab collection and the cashmere salvage denims. jeans that would lean towards the higher price points, but the justification for this, is that they are ready to wear and worn out to look authentic. they come in their own little wooden nudie boxes as well, one for every season (so cute!). raw is nudie’s philosophy, and who doesn’t love a raw denim!
i hate to say this, but ive never actually gone through with the whole raw denim process. for those of you who are not aware, you are supposed to buy the denim and wear it for as long as possible (hopefully six months) without washing. the freezer and febreeze then become your best friend. however, i promise: the next pair of jeans i buy will be raw! the coolest of the bunch was the raw jeans with a wax coating. if you wear em out real good, they get shiny and leathery, becoming “second skin denim”.
last year, nudie held a wear and tear competition where kids all over the world submitted! the dealio? they all started off with a pair of raw jeans and would do anything and everything to them! put random shapes in their pockets, go in the ocean, run around in snow. one winner per country received a ticket to italy and a chance to check out nudie headquarters and the facilities. a willy wonka type contest, so awesome! also to checkout: a short film about how they make their jeans (below).

Phenomenal Handclap Band – Baby (Clock Opera Remix) (mp3)
Phenomenal Handclap Band – 15 to 20 (Den Haan Remix) (mediafire)
dusting off the old bell bottoms scene, disco is now being revived by the likes of phenomenal handclap band. thanks to LOOKOUT, i discovered this band and had the chance to hear the big sound all eight of these disco ducks have to offer over at le belmont april 3rd. the phenomenal handclap band or PHB plays really hearty music, and because they’re so many they create a versatile orchestra with a wide range of styles. sometimes the vocals are very pop, and in other songs such as ‘baby’ the singing is more soul. each of the members has a different/ solo project that also takes up their time. (and my two cents for anyone in charge of lighting: quit with the red lights! i cant take any pictures you fools!).
this sunday, nick (elixe) and i trekked over to the third day of the third edition of stylists own. so you know when you look through an editorial and go “oh i really like that”, and then peek to see where its from and it says “stylists own”, well yeah- that’s the concept. they collect one of a kind pieces from designers, which only stylists would normally be able to get their hands on, and then you get to drool and/or purchase them! nick and i especially loved the rack of vintage pieces from the king kongs of the fashion world; proenza schouler, burberry, moschino, miumiu, ysl, prada, etc.

watched an episode of degrassi today during a seminar? which reminded me that canada has more to be proud of than prime maple syrup. fresher goods, such as drake for one. this video came out a few hours ago, and its been on repeat. i’ve always been a huge sucker for projections. totally giving a shout out to little masha who used to make us take a break from the cure and put drake on repeat when we both formerly worked at three monkeys boutique. originally these photos were to muck around and come up with some jay-z inspired thing (the clown), but that was way expired, so now im pulling em out again for some drake inspired layers!
stern’s music is anything but stern, stuffy and uptight. although i disagree with the myspace genre chosen as club / club / club, i would give his music more props than just that. its more musical than your average dance music, seen with tango loco, pulling violin influences straight out of a spanish quartet. also, the video for manouche (below) is really well down and the colors are just uplifting and keeping me awake/ alive.
when you dont have the chance/ time/ money to hop over to new york, tokyo, hong kong, online shopping is the next best thing. a site i found out about through friends at school, called ZIPIA, is a great pit stop whether you’re just a girl/dude looking for new threads or a boutique buying wholesale. with thousands and thousands of great pieces to choose from, they come really cheap, and its all online- so you can stay and loaf on that sofa of yours, or never get out of bed. basically, someone at school always initiates a zipia round (over a facebook event) and we make a list of what we want and hand in our money to one person. that way the explosive shipping fees can be avoided, and if we get hit with customs- we can split that as well (we’ve never been hit yet). im in the process of picking out some clothes right this second, so ill post some photos when i receive them. there are also STYLE and TRENDY sections on the website, which is essentially super cute asians modelling the really well styled looks from which one can draw ideas.
