sandman viper command
so let me start off by saying, i suck at phone interviews! i’ve always had this huge fear of the telephone.. and i feel the need to be able to reach out and slap someone if they say something stupid, or hug them if they’re 1000% awesome. but despite that getting in the way, i caught up with SANDMAN VIPER COMMAND just before their last show of their one month residency at C’EST WHAT in toronto and had a good laugh. their name came from a movie called outbreak and there was a scene with “helicopters and military guards and celebrities and through their military communication the name sandman viper command arose and [they] decided to hijack it”. to me- it sounds like that amazing toy you never got as a child. try saying SANDMAN VIPER COMMAND five times in a row and before you know it you’ll be running off to toys r us asking for one. but they can get a little pricey, so you might want to try playing BROTHERS with the band instead.
relationship with one another?
brothers from other mothers. always good times, never a bad time. ..sometimes we snuggle?
signed to audioblood? different? was it a relief?
definitely different. more organized really, more focused, more fun. more everything! there seems to be more definite goals that we can achieve and work towards. it helped having them work with us, because before hand we were sortof trying to do it on our own and didnt really know how to work the field. we’re a band primarily, we’re not a business. it’s good to have someone else help you out with it. people who have experience, who know who to call and how to talk to them when you call them.
isolated for 6months with producer dave king. how did that affect you? crazier? our skills as musicians we’re forced to get better whether or not we wanted to, we had to become better under the sctrutny of microphones. we’ve always been good musicians and always had good ideas but there is always room for improvement with anyone. it was good for outside person to come in to tell you when you were good. again another person who could get in there and focus the energy, we have a lot of it. it took things to another level for us, a lot of level kicking happening, we were getting kicked all over the place ha.
lyrics? rob is the poet of the group who writes the lyrics. what is going on at the time, what we are all going through. definetely get input from other people. sometimes just whatever sounds good you’ll just be humming in your head.. mhmm mhmm
-its about imagery sometimes, more than the words themselves.
-AHAHAH that was good, maybe matt will write the next album.
solely pursuing music? im (rob) also pursuing the luxurious career of watch repair. it’ll be at least 65 more years. its going quite well, not really any room for growth, so im pretty much stuck where i am. i like it, its comfortable. ill try to upgrade to clock repair and not just watch repair. someday ill get off the wall. hard on my eyes, really i just want to give my eyes a break.
going on tour this year? ontario and quebec and hopefully towards the summer we will be going on tour. just stick to canada? for now yes, in our immediate sights. but definetely not discriminating against the US .. or anywhere else. we’re going where we can for sure.
how far do you plan on going with the band? you know the beatles? hahahah. i think we’re going to go with the flow and hope the flow goes as far as it can.
how has the residency been? planning anything special for tonight? its been great! each show turns into more of a party, really good time and good vibes all around. for tonight? its extremely special, so special that we’re not even allowed to talk about it.
who has the best facial hair? aaron has a single hair that grows above his lip, it gets pretty long at times. once he came to a show with it tye-died and it impressed everyone.
c’est what is such a good brewery!
